Set against the backdrop of the Great Madras Famine of 1876–1878, Ranabaali explores themes of oppression, resistance and survival through a fictional historical narrative. Vijay Deverakonda plays the central warrior character, while Rashmika Mandanna appears as the female lead. The film aims to bring a lesser-explored chapter of India's colonial past to the big screen through elaborate period visuals, dramatic sequences and an action-driven storyline.

Early audience reactions have been mixed to positive, with some viewers appreciating the film’s visual grandeur, action sequences, performances and the lead pair’s on-screen chemistry. However, other viewers have expressed concerns about the narration, pacing and the handling of certain dramatic portions.
